Despite being just the 48th most populous county in Tennessee, Marshall County has a reputation for putting a large number of quality athletes on the hardwood, diamond, and gridiron in spite of the small population pool.
In fact, current UT-Martin football star Jay Murphy attributes the small town atmosphere for allowing him to concentrate on the important things growing up in Lewisburg that led to recent success on the football field.

Almost every boy that grows up in the great state of Tennessee and straps on shoulder pads during the fall dreams of running through the "T" and playing for the home state Vols, but very few get that opportunity.

Following another standout season in which the Marshall County native finished with 11 field goals in 16 tries, a perfect 56-for-56 on PAT and a perfect a career best 42 touchbacks on kickoffs, Medley will return for a senior season in which he could rewrite the Volunteer record books.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- Mike Williams took a few steps backward after the final snap, flopped to the ground and waited for the confetti to start falling.
It was his least acrobatic move of the night.
Williams, Hunter Renfrow and Jordan Leggett were every bit as integral to Clemson's first national championship since 1981 as quarterback and offensive MVP Deshaun Watson.
Watson's trio of dynamic receivers made big play after big play, clutch catch after clutch catch, and helped the Tigers upset Alabama 35-31 in the title game Monday night.
"This is what it's all about right here, boys," Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said.

Warrick overcomes odds, stays humble as softball career soars
Humbleness in the sports world has gone by the wayside for the most part, but there are still rays of hope that shine bright in a few special athletes who very rarely ever think about themselves, being a kindred spirit to others around them.
One of those rare gems is Forrest graduate Katie Warrick, who recently made another step towards a lifelong goal of being the best softball player she can be, accepting a transfer offer from the University of Arkansas.

A good way to judge the success of a particular sports program is to look at how many players the team sends to play college ball after four years of being in a system. Cornersville softball then, should be considered extremely successful with the signing of Miranda Cooksey to Motlow State, as two of the Lady Dawgs three senior players (Carson Coble- Martin Methodist) have now signed to extend their playing careers on the college level.
