Bombers sweep field for Southeast Regional berth
Marshall County has a State Babe Ruth baseball championship to celebrate.
The local program's 14-under all-star team finished off a three-game sweep of the tournament on Sunday in Cookeville by whipping host Putnam County 9-1.
It was Marshall County's first title in the division since 2006.

Three straight wins send team to district tourney finals
The Marshall County Bombers' vow to avenge a mental error that led to their only loss in the Babe Ruth League District 9 tournament at Lewisburg came to fruition as the talented 14U crew battled back to earn a spot in the Thursday's championship.
"I told them we would get back there, now we are done to one game," said Marshall County manager Greg Bradford, whose team met Franklin County for the title. "They've worked hard and hopefully we will wrap it up and head to Cookeville.

Rain delayed the opening of the 14 year-old Babe Ruth District Tournament at Lewisburg until Sunday when the Marshall County Bombers came up with a big 17-3 victory against defending champion Lawrence County in the first round.
"Dustin Brashear started the game and pitched well and we came in and hit the ball well and jumped on them pretty good," Marshall County manager Greg Bradford said of the win shortened to five innings by the mercy rule. "It was a good win, everybody put the bat on the ball all the way through the lineup."

Playing tennis at the Lewisburg Recreation Center has a very competitive side, especially for the senior group that has been gathering on the court for four decades to stay in shape and hone their skills.
"It is very competitive out here, that's why I like playing with the group," Robert Ward said.

fireworks All-Stars open district play Thursday night
When the Marshall County Babe Ruth League 15-year-old all-stars take the field at Sam Davis Park in Pulaski Thursday for the district tournament opener they will be ready.
"I feel pretty confident and I think we'll be OK. There is a lot of talent on this team," said manager Brian Eady, whose team faces Tullahoma at 6 p.m. "I honestly believe we'll win district and go to state and see what we can do there."

The Marshall County girls' all-stars shined in the United States Girls Fastpitch (USGF) Summer Scramble at Tullahoma last weekend as 6U girls took home the first place trophy and the 12U girls came home in second place. The 8U squad did not place at Tullahoma, while the 10U girls finished in third place. All four teams will be back in action on July 11 at Ridley Park at Columbia...

The Marshall County Babe Ruth League's 14-year old all-stars have not won a state title since 2006 under Mike Mills, but the 2015 squad could break the long drought if they can get over a major hurdle.
"I can tell you, this is one of the strongest 14-year old teams I have seen in a long while," said Marshall County manager Greg Bradford.

The Friends of Henry Horton (FOHH), in cooperation with the staff at Henry Horton State Park are taking on the dream of rebuilding the Wilhoite Mill on the shores of the ecologically significant and beautiful Duck River.
On Friday, the FOHH hosted its annual golf outing at the Buford Ellington Golf Course at Henry Horton State Park to help with the cause and after a short rain delay; the golfers took to the links.

Marshall Medical Center (MMC) pitcher Austin Grubbs tossed a two-hitter versus A-Plus Collision Center in Tuesday night's Marshall County Babe Ruth League nightcap.
Grubbs surrendered one earned run, walked six and struck out seven A-Plus batters in the five-inning, 8-1 run-rule win.

Nichirin, looking to bust a two-game losing streak, led 5-0 in Monday night's Marshall County Babe Ruth League nightcap before Marshall Medical Center (MMC) came back to tie the game in the fourth inning.
Nichirin backstop Jacob Autry, who has been red-hot at the plate, knocked in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fourth to put the game away.

The two Clint's Air Care (CAC) hurlers combined on a four-inning, no-hitter versus winless A-Plus Collision Center, while the offensive continued to dominate in a 12-1 run-rule win.

Nichirin came up with three runs in the top of the first inning with the big blow coming off the bat of Jacob Autry, who slammed a two-run double to deep center field.

The Elks sent Devin Aydelott to the mound versus A-Plus Collision Center in Wednesday night's Marshall Babe Ruth League nightcap and the young right-hander turned in a one-hit gem as the Elks won 11-1.
Aydelott went the distance in the four-inning, run-rule win, giving up one earned run, walking four and striking out four A-Plus batters.

Early 7-0 deficit turns to 10-9 Babe Ruth win!
Nichirin came to play Wednesday night, seemingly on its way to win over unbeaten Clint's Air Care (CAC) and a chance at stealing the Marshall County Babe Ruth League title.
But CAC, also called the Mudcats had other ideas, turning an upset loss into a 10-9 comeback win at the Jonathan D. Hollingsworth Memorial Babe Ruth Field at Lewisburg.
