Annual spectacle boasts pageantry, excitement

NASHVILLE -- Saturday was a perfect day for racing in Nashville, sunny and warm with a pleasant breeze. More than 20,000 spectators flocked to Percy Warner Park to enjoy the spectacle of fine Thoroughbred horses galloping at top speed and jumping fences.

Alas, our Marshall County horses were not winners.

In the first race, Najjm carried his amateur jockey, Michael Bordwell, who was having his first rides at an official National Steeplechase Association meet, to a fourth-place finish and a share in the prize money for Karen Grey. Najjm also got the prize for best turned out. Ted Thompson's runner, Regal Again, took sixth place with Nicholas McMillan, his owner's son.
