After an exciting come from behind 3-2 win in game one over BGA, the Middle Tennessee Mudcats could not finish the sweep, falling 7-2 in the second game of the doubleheader.

Boone Sweeney gave the Mudcats a 1-0 first inning lead with an RBI base knock that scored Jacob Daughrity, who led off the contest with a base hit before moving to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Jacob Jones.

BGA battles back

BGA was not as good as host as in game one, touching Mudcats starting pitcher Jonathon Lykins for four runs in the bottom of the inning.

BGA sent nine batters to the plate in the inning as Grant Drury, Matt Cogen, and Noah Mayberry all had RBI base hits in the rally.

The Mudcats did not score in the second inning and Austin Harber came to the hill for Chapel Hill in the bottom of the inning and did not allow BGA to add to their lead.

In the top of the third, the Mudcats cut the BGA lead in half as Alex Brewer knocked in Lykins, who hammered a one-out base hit and advanced to second on a passed ball.

BGA scored an unearned run in the bottom of the inning and added single earned runs in the fourth (Cogen sac fly) and fifth (Grosvenor RBI) to take a 7-2 lead.

No rally

After Cole Grosvenor struck out the Mudcats in order in the fifth, Landon Jones drew a leadoff walk in the top of the sixth, and after a strikeout, Harber reached on a base on balls, setting up another potential comeback rally for the Chapel Hill boys.

Grosvenor would have none of it, whiffing the next batter for the second out before the inning ended on a grounder back to the mound.

Marshall McKee tossed a scoreless bottom of the sixth for the Mudcats, and in the last chance seventh, Grosvenor induced two straight ground balls to Tucker Beathard at shortstop before Kennedy Mathis doubled, keeping the game alive.

The game ended on a line drive shot to second off the bat of Ryan Byrd.

Daughrity (1-2, RS), Brewer (1-2, RBI), Sweeney (1-3, RBI), Lykins (1-2, RS), and Bryce Oliver (1-3) all had one hit apiece for the Mudcats.

Jackson Curb (2-4, 2RS), Drury (2-3, RS, RBI), and Tucker Beathard (2-4, 2RS) all had a pair of hits for BGA, while Cogen (13, RS, BB, RBI) and Mayberry (1-3, RBI) had one base knock each for the Franklin private school summer league ball club.
