The Bulldogs, coming off a lopsided loss at Richland, played measurably better but still came up short as Collinwood scored a 56-43 win.

In the second game of a Saturday doubleheader at Cornersville, the Collinwood Trojans faced the hometown Cornersville Bulldogs, who were hoping to gain their first victory of the year.
The Bulldogs, coming off a lopsided loss at Richland, played measurably better but still came up short as Collinwood scored a 56-43 win.
“We will not match up well against every team we face” Cornersville coach Peyton Newton said, “We will have to work better inside to offset this.”
“Every time we got close, they got a big rebound and then converted it. We have got to get better inside.”
Collinwood controlled the opening tip and Aidan Baskins promptly buried a three-pointer to put the Trojans up 3-0.
The Bulldogs responded with Jackson Mitchell canning a jumper to make the score 3-2 before Baskins netted a basket and Dayton Scott canned a three-pointer to make it 8-2.
Bryce Woodard scored on a short jumper before Baskins struck again and Tucker Thompson followed with a steal and layup to put Collinwood up 12-4.
Cornersville’s three-point shooter, Andrew Santini buried a trey to make it 12-7.
Baskins scored his seventh point of the quarter and Bryan Rozinski made a three-point play, the old-fashion way to give Collinwood a 17-7 lead after the first quarter.
Noah Hollis started the second stanza with a three-pointer for Collinwood.
Michael Ashley, showing a shooter’s touch, then lit up the basket as he nailed three 3-pointers and a two-point basket to bring the Bulldogs roaring back at 20-15.
Collinwood responded as Hollis bagged one-of-two free throws and Rozinski added a basket before Khi Canty scored for Cornersville to make it 23-20.
Scott and Hollis then canned three-point goals to push the Collinwood lead to 29-20 and Woodard added a free throw to finish the second quarter and the Bulldogs trailed 29-21 at the half.
Woodard, the shooting guard for the Bulldogs, warmed up with a three-pointer along with a basket by Tanner Reese to cut the lead to 29-26.
Collinwood responded, answering the call with a free throw by Joe Thompson, a Tucker Thompson three-pointer, and another basket by Rozinski to push the lead out to 35-26
Canty made one free throw at the 3:38 mark of the third quarter before Holt added a two-pointer and Baskins rattled home a three-pointer to make the score 40-27.
Woodard would not go quietly as he canned a three pointer to make it 40-30 and he added another free throw to end Cornersville’s scoring in the third quarter with Collinwood leading 40-31, entering the fourth quarter.
Baskin dropped in another basket to begin the stanza, but Woodard answered with a jumper, making the score 42-33.
Payton Ward nailed a three off the bench for the Trojans and Mitchell answered with a basket for the Bulldogs to keep it at a 10-point game.
After a basket by Collinwood’s Rozinski, Santini canned another three-pointer for the Bulldogs to make the score 47-38 with 2:41 left in the game.
Ward was fouled and added two free throws, followed by a Joe Thompson basket to make the score 51-38.
The Bulldogs were fighting the Trojans and the clock, coming up with a three-pointer from Ashley, but time ran out and the Trojans prevailed 56-43.
