Playing through extremely difficult weather conditions in golf mandates a total focus where every single shot counts and on Monday at the Region 6A/AA Tournament at Henry Horton State Park it did.

The Cascade Champions overcame the rain soaked day at a soggy Buford Ellington Golf Course to win the crown by one stroke 325-326 over Hickman County to advance to the state tournament for the first time in school history.

Jake Pimental led the way for the Champs, shooting a six-over par round of 78 on the 3,300-yard tract.

Blake England was next with an 80 for Cascade, Bryce Clinton came up big in the fifth spot with an 82, Lucas Dunnivant carded an 85, and Chad Gordon signed for an 89.

The top four scores are used to determine the winner and the next four individuals not on the winning team advance to the state tournament as well.

Hickman County's John Harris and East Hickman's Zac Thomas were tied for low round of the day as they both fired a four-over par 76.

Harris went on to beat Thomas in a playoff for the region medal.

Columbia Academy's Richard Law advanced with a 79 and the final spot in the individual portion of the state tournament went to Zack Sherman from East Hickman.

The Marshall County Tigers took third place, fourteen strokes behind the winners at 339.

Justin Killian was tops for the Tigers, shooting an 81, and the senior was followed by Brooks Leftwich (83), Austin Blade (84), Miller Sale (91), and Ben Briggs (107).

Forrest had two individuals playing in the event with Ryan Daughrity turning in an 88 and Blake Tansil signing for a 91.

In girls' play, Hickman County bested Eagleville 183-193 with Miranda Beard shooting a 90 and Alexandria Qualls carding a 93, while Eagleville senior Lindsey McRee extended her fine career tied for the day's best round at 80 with Mikayla Dodson from Santa Fe.

Dodson went on to defeat McRee on the first playoff as she managed a par to McRee's bogey in a driving rainstorm on the first hole, but both players advanced to the individual portion of the Division A/AA State Tournament, beginning on September 27 at Willow Brook Golf Club in Manchester.

Brooklyn Snell followed McRee with a 110 for the Lady Eagles.

The two remaining spots went Page's Jessica Zweifel (83) and Lewis County's Taylor Hinson (101).

Cornersville's Kaylee Cook ended her career with a 104 and Martha Jane McMasters and Kaitlyn Rogers both participated, but were unable to finish because of the weather conditions.
