The Cornersville Middle School Lady Bulldogs (5-4) completed the season sweep of Richland by whipping the Lady Raiders 13-2 in five innings on Thursday night in Lynnville.

Having defeated Richland 9-4 two weeks earlier, the Lady Bulldogs held a 4-2 lead through the first two innings of play before outscoring the Lady Raiders 9-0 over the final three frames to pull away for the 11-run victory.

With Richland's pitching staff having trouble finding the strike zone, Cornersville finished with eight hits and 13 walks against two Lady Raider hurlers.

Starting pitcher Mikaela King spearheaded the Lady Bulldogs' offensive attack by going 3-for-3 with a double and 5 RBI. Madison Hopkins and Jewel Anne Walls both tallied two hits for CMS as well with Hopkins driving in one run, while Hannah Singleton added one hit and a RBI.

King also picked up the victory in the circle for Cornersville to run her record to 2-2 on the season, allowing two runs on six hits and no walks in five innings of work to go along with three strikeouts.

"I'm happy we put them away early tonight. When you hit the ball good things happen. We also played good defense," said CMS coach Eric Crabtree.

Sara Corlew notched two hits and a RBI to pace Richland at the plate, while Erin Campbell (1 RBI), Ali Dickey, Kaitlin King, and Alyssa Pet each had one hit.

The Lady Bulldogs wasted no time getting on the scoreboard and pushed across three runs in the top of the first inning with the help of a Hopkins triple, a Lady Raider throwing error, a pair of walks by Prosser and Holder, two stolen bases, a passed ball, and a King RBI single to grab a 3-0 lead.

Cornersville then plated another run in the second inning to open up a 4-0 advantage. After advancing to second on a bunt single and a Richland throwing error, Walls scored all the way from second on a sacrifice bunt by Singleton.

The Lady Raiders narrowed the gap to 4-2 in the bottom of the second on RBI singles by Campbell and Corlew, but the Lady Bulldogs stretched their lead to 5-2 in the top of the third when Darnell scored on a RBI infield single by King after drawing a walk, stealing second, and advancing to third on a wild pitch.

In the top of the fourth, Cornersville pushed across two more runs on the strength of walks from Singleton and Hopkins, a wild pitch, a Richland error, and a double steal to make it 7-2.

The Lady Bulldogs then brought the mercy rule into effect by tallying six runs in the fifth inning to forge a 13-2 lead.

Emma Mitchell was hit by a pitch to start the inning, before Walls drew a walk and Singleton reached on a bunt single to load the bases with no outs. After Hopkins drove in Mitchell with a RBI bloop single, Prosser and Darnell both drew bases loaded walks to push Cornersville's lead to 10-2. King then cleared the bases by lacing a three-run double into the left centerfield gap before retiring the Lady Raiders in order in the bottom half of the frame.
