Despite recording their best score of the young season, the Cornersville Bulldogs golf team saw their record fall to 2-2 on Tuesday afternoon when they suffered a narrow four-stroke loss to the Community Vikings at the Lewisburg Recreation Center.

The Lady Bulldogs, meanwhile, were unable to complete their match against Community due to lightning.

Having dropped a 202-204 decision to Cornersville last week, the Vikings finished with a team score of 193 over nine holes to take home the victory in Tuesday's match after taking the four best rounds from six players, while the Bulldogs tallied a 197.

'Getting better'

Having dropped a 202-204 decision to Cornersville last week, the Vikings finished with a team score of 193 over nine holes to take home the victory in Tuesday's match after taking the four best rounds from six players, while the Bulldogs tallied a 197.

"Even though we lost, I think we're getting better as a team. The kids are really working hard and showing steady improvement," said Cornersville coach Joy McMasters.

Blake Fanning was the low man of the match for Community and carded a 44. Jake Garrette followed Fanning with a 44, while Spencer Smith and Brayden Stephenson both notched a 52.

Top scorer

Aided by an eagle on the par 5 third hole, junior Tate Lowery posted the best score of the day and led the Bulldogs with a 43.

"I was pleased with Tate and he has continued to improve since the start of the season. I think he only had one bad hole today, but overall he played really well," said McMasters. "He's become the leader of the team. Now we need some other kids to step up with him."

Colby Downs also tallied a 50 for Cornersville, while Matthew Karban and Kolbe McMahon each turned in a 52. Blake Calahan and J.D. Crabtree both carded a 53 for the Bulldogs as well.

Cornersville returns to action next Tuesday when they take on Community again at Riverbend Country Club in Shelbyville at 3:30 p.m.
