Lady Bulldogs

Having beaten Elkton 34-22 in their previous encounter on Nov. 4, the Lady Bulldogs took control of Thursday's contest early and built a 18-6 lead in the first quarter on the strength of 11 points from Morgan Terry, four points from Emma Mitchell, and Jordyn Hopkins trey.

After opening up a 26-12 advantage in the second period with the help of four points from Terry, CMS put together a 10-2 run in the second quarter behind six points from Terry to forge a 36-14 lead.

The Lady Bulldogs then put the finishing touches on their 44-18 victory by outscoring the Lady Elks 8-4 in the fourth period with the help of three points from Hannah Singleton and baskets by Kianna Holder and Callie White.

Terry led Cornersville's offensive attack by pouring in a career high 21 points. Mitchell also tallied six points and Hopkins and Singleton added three points each. Taylor Powers, Holder, White, Mikaela King, and Kiely Ridinger chipped in two points apiece for the Lady Bulldogs as well, while Kendall Garrell had one point.

"We've got 12 eighth graders on the team and 10 of them scored so that was big for us," said CMS coach Peyton Newton. "Morgan had a career high and we weren't even focusing on getting her the ball. She just hit everything she put up."

Alex Rose was the biggest bright spot for Elkton and paced the Lady Elks with 16 points, while Destiny Blade had two points.

Bulldogs

In the nightcap, the Bulldogs got off to a solid start and jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the first quarter thanks to five points from Kolbe McMahon and a Cody Umbles three, before outscoring Elkton 10-9 in the second period with the help of eight points from McMahon to open up a 18-11 advantage.

The Elks used an 8-4 run in the third quarter to narrow the gap to 22-19, but McMahon singlehandedly outscored Elkton 7-4 in the fourth period to seal Cornersville's 29-23 victory.

McMahon carried most of the offensive load for CMS and led the Bulldogs with 22 points. Umbles also added three points for Cornersville, while Darien Bush and Cameron Whitaker both chipped in two points.

"Kolbe played hard and rebounded the ball well. He finished around the basket and scored on a couple of contested layups. I was proud of the way he played," said CMS coach Gerard Randolph. "The eighth graders that started like Brice Dunkleman and Brice Powers played well. It was nice to get them some action."

Bryce Dangerfield paced the Elks with 14 points, while Morgan Witt notched six points.
