The Cornersville Lady Bulldogs golf team clinched a winning record on Thursday by defeating Columbia Academy at Stoneybrook Golf Course in their regular season finale.

CA had narrowly beaten Cornersville in their previous meeting on Aug. 22, but the Lady Bulldogs (4-3) turned the tables on the Maury County private school on Thursday and posted a season best team score of 95 after taking the two best rounds from each team, while Columbia Academy finished three strokes back with a 98.

Young stars

Freshmen Emma Reese and Carly Salsman both turned in the best performances of their young CHS careers. Reese posted the lowest score of the match and shot a 47 over the front nine holes at Stoneybrook, while Salsman carded a 48. Fellow freshman Ellie Jackson also tallied a 55 for the Lady Bulldogs.

"We're so excited for the girls. This is the best score they've shot all year. They've been practicing a lot and have made a lot of improvement throughout the season," said Cornersville coach Joy McMasters. "Emma and Carly did a good job of keeping their drives in the fairway and they both putted the ball better today."

Madison Dant paced CA with a 48, while Miranda Goats notched a 50.

Boys

In the boys match, the Bulldogs (7-5) finished with their second best score of the season, but came up short against a red hot Columbia Academy squad.

Taking the four best scores from each team, CA posted a season best score of 147, while Cornersville tallied a 175.

Sophomore Colby Downs was the low man for the Bulldogs and shot a career best 38. Tate Lowery followed Downs with a 40, while J.D. Crabtree and Zack Smith both turned in a 48. Matthew Karban notched a 49 for CHS as well and Blake Calahan recorded a 53.

"We have shaved almost 25 shots off of our team scores from last year. Even though we lost, it was a very positive way to end the season. You just have to tip your cap to Columbia Academy because they played great," said McMasters. "Colby has been working extremely hard and practices all the time. He's really excited about the game and wants to get better."

Lake Lomax lapped the rest of the field and shot a five-under par 31 to lead CA to the victory. Kase Manor also tallied a 38 for Columbia Academy, while Zane Johnson and Lane Gibson both carded a 39.
