Marshall County students in the fourth through eighth grades participated in the 4-H Public Speaking Contest throughout the month of January. On the evening of Feb. 6, 39 students gathered to compete for the titles of best public speakers in Marshall County among their peers.

Students qualified to compete by winning either a blue or red ribbon in public speaking at their individual school’s 4-H club competition. Students competed within their respective grade level to win awards at the 2017 Marshall County 4-H Public Speaking Contest.

First and second place winners from each grade advance to the Area 3 4-H Public Speaking Contest Feb. 16 at Motlow State Community College in Moore County.

4-H volunteers and judges are owed a debt of gratitude for making this event a great success, and congratulations to all 4-H participants for a job well done. To find out more about 4-H, please contact the UT Extension’s Marshall County Office at (931)359-1929.
