On April 18, Marshall County Sheriff's deputies arrested Phillip G. Crabtree, 31, of Park Avenue. Crabtree had outstanding warrants for failure to appear in Marshall County Circuit Court and was also wanted in Riverside, Calif. on charges of forcible rape. Crabtree appeared in court here on April 23, and will be extradited to California.
Thefts and vandalism reported
* A 12-foot white bumper-hitch trailer with green trim and a jack on the tongue, worth $2,000, was reported missing from a home on Finley Beech Road on April 19. The owner told Marshall County Sheriff's Deputy Matt Owens he last saw the trailer Thursday or Friday the previous week, but thought a friend had borrowed it.
* On April 16, a resident of Old Lake Road noticed someone had taken a horse-drawn disc, a bogg, a turning plow, a wood-burning cook stove with white doors, and a loader frame with two cylinders from a building on his property. Total value of the missing items was estimated at $1,055.
* A purse worth $25, containing $400 cash and a debit card, was taken from an unlocked Toyota CRS while the vehicle was parked on College Street the evening of April 15.
* Between 5 p.m. April 17 and noon April 19 two five-gallon containers of lacquer finish, worth $150 each, were stolen from 330 5th Avenue North. A piece of plywood put over a back window had been torn off, and "it appears that the offender ... exited the building through this window," reported Lewisburg Police Officer James Repasky.
* A black HP laptop worth $250 was taken from the kitchen table of a home on Buchanan Street between 5 and 10:30 p.m. April 15. There were no signs of forced entry.
* Between 7:45 a.m. April 16 and 6:27 p.m. April 17, the back window of a Ford Sunset sedan was shattered while the car was parked on Coble Drive. Cost of replacing the glass is estimated at $200.
* On April 16, a pair of blue peacocks, worth $100 each, were taken from a home on Gray Road by two young people, who stopped a white hatchback car near the fence, snatched the birds, put them in the car, and drove off.
* Between 11 p.m. April 15 and 1 a.m. April 16, the front door of a home on Hurt Road was kicked in. The door will cost $150 to repair.
* About 10 a.m. April 16 a piece of wood was thrown through the back window of a home on Maple Street. The window will cost an estimated $150 to repair.
* A Belfast woman reported to Marshall County Sheriff's Department someone used her credit card information to buy $92.05 worth of merchandise from Walmart.com. She found out because an automatic email was sent to her phone when the transaction was made.
* Some toys, worth $90, were stolen from a locked outbuilding at a home on East Commerce Street.
* A Lewisburg woman reported to police someone had assumed her identity and taken control of her AT&T account. She began to suspect something when AT&T sent her a text message confirming an upgrade to her phone plan. About a week later, her phone was turned off, and when she called AT&T they told her a new phone with a new number and new service plan had been purchased at an AT&T store in the Northeast by someone using her personal information.
* The manager of the Tennessean Truck Stop reported to Marshall County Sheriff's Department a payroll check was cashed there on April 11, but the bank returned the check because the account could not be found. Detective Chad Bass noted the Sheriff's Department has a copy of the check, and surveillance photos of the person who cashed it.
