After sweeping a doubleheader against Murfreesboro Central Magnet the previous evening, the Marshall County Dusters recorded their third straight win on Friday afternoon when they defeated tourney host Coffee County 10-6 in eight innings at the Crethan Hansert Memorial Tournament.

The Red Raiders held a 6-3 lead through the first five innings of play, but Marshall County came storming back in the top of the sixth and plated three runs in the frame to tie the game at 6-6.

Late surge

Following a scoreless seventh, the Dusters crossed home plate four times in the top of the eighth to seize a 10-6 lead before holding Coffee County scoreless in the bottom half of the inning to claim the victory.

Marshall County finished with nine hits against two Red Raider starting pitcher Wyatt Day and reliever Dusty Harriman, but were also aided by 11 walks and three Coffee County errors, which contributed to five of the Dusters' 10 runs.

Connor Bush led Marshall County's offensive attack by going 3-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base, and two runs scored, while Hayden Bailey added two hits, 2 RBI, and three runs scored. Ryan McDaniel (3 RBI), Dylan McKnight (1 RBI), Bubba Houghton, and Grayson Wiles notched one hit apiece for the Dusters as well.

Harriman suffered the loss on the mound after allowing four unearned runs over two and a third innings on eight walks.

Coffee County, meanwhile, recorded six hits and five walks against three Marshall County hurlers. Jacob Prater tallied two hits and a RBI to pace the Red Raiders at the plate, while John Reese Gilmer and Deandre Wakefield both had a hit and 2 RBI.

Mound winner

Duster relief pitcher Matt Sharp picked up the win and registered three strikeouts in one and two-third scoreless innings of work. Marshall County starting pitcher Lane Whitesell had to settle for the no decision after yielding six runs, only two earned, over four and a third innings on five hits and four walks. Cameron Isley also saw time on the mound for the Dusters and gave up one hit and one walk over two scoreless innings.

Marshall County grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when McDaniel drove in Bailey with a RBI single after the Dusters loaded the bases with one out on a Bailey single, a walk by Sharp, and a hit batsman.

Coffee County got their offense going in the bottom of the second and crossed home plate four times in the frame with the help of a two-run bloop double by Wakefield and a Gilmer two-run single to pull ahead 4-1.

The Dusters pushed across two runs in the top of the third thanks to a McKnight walk, a hit batsman, an error, and a RBI fielder's choice by Chandler Harmon to narrow the gap to 4-3, but the Red Raiders tallied two runs in the bottom of the fourth on two hits, a walk, and a steal of home to open up a 6-3 advantage.

Dusters rally

Marshall County engineered another rally in the top of the sixth and crossed home plate three times in the frame on the strength of a Bailey two-run double and a RBI single by McKnight to knot the score at 6-6.

After both teams left a runner in scoring position in the seventh inning, the Dusters plated four runs in the top of the eighth on five walks, a hit batsman, and error, and a RBI fielder's choice by Sharp to forge a 10-6 lead.

Sharp then worked around a hit batsman and an error in the bottom of the eighth to clinch the win for Marshall County.
