The Forrest Rockets played well in a Thursday night loss to Moore County, but ran in to an Eagleville buzz saw on Friday night at Chapel Hill with Ryley McClaran pouring in 27 points versus his former school and the Eagles won going away 62-32 and extended their winning streak over Forrest to eight games.

The Rockets, who played without in-team suspended Cameron Curtis and Cole Villazon, had 11 players tally in the scorebook, but none scoring more than four points.

Deason Jones, Spencer McCown, Joel Burton, and Connor Lewis all had four points apiece, Cole Perryman and Andrew Timmons netted three, and Hunter Bennett, Tayton Swift, CJ Sanchez, Brennan Mealer, and Walker Herring scored two points apiece.

“By the time we are a full team here next week we will have multiple guys that score the basketball and multiple guys that can defend and just do different roles,” Forrest coach Corey Bishop said. “Right now it’s just a feeling out process and I have all the confidence in the world we are trending in the right direction.”

“The results may not show it, but the process is telling me we are only getting better and it’s only going to matter at tournament time.”

Numi Davenport drilled a 3-pointer for Eagleville to open the scoring and Perryman scored on a drive to the hoop for Forrest.

The Eagles ripped off 13 points in row with McClaran scoring eight as they opened up a 16-2 lead before Herring scored in the low post for the Rockets with just over two minutes to play in the first quarter.

A Timmons 3-pointer for the Rockets was the last points tallied in the first period with Eagleville in front 16-7.

McCown scored to open up the second quarter, but Eagleville kept pulling away and led by 18 points on a Jenson Linton bucket until Lewis scored at the buzzer and Forrest trailed 35-19 at the break.

McClaran, who went a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line in the contest, drained two charity shots to open the second half and Mealer scored in the low post for the Rockets.

“He (McClaran) worked for what he got and that’s what we wanted to do was for him to work for his points, give credit to him, he did a good job,” Bishop said. “But I also thought we did as good job of containing him most of the game.”

Eagleville essentially put the game away with a big 11-2 run to make it 48-23 before Jones scored the final four points of the stanza on one free throw and a 3-pointer.

The Rockets trailed by 21 points entering the fourth period and only managed to score five more points while the Eagles netted 14 in the final quarter to take the 30-point victory.

Forrest (1-13) embarks on a grueling six-game road trip at Sycamore (7-3) on Friday, followed by a trip to Lynchburg (6-8) on Saturday afternoon, before opening up District 12-AA play at Murfreesboro Central Magnet School (6-8) on Tuesday.

Curtis will be back at Sycamore and Villazon returns to the lineup on Saturday.

“We played 14 practice games so far and we got two more, so we will have 16 practice games under our belt with 11 different starters on our team,” Bishop said. “By the time we get in to the deep postseason in the middle of February we know that will pay dividends, so we are excited and we are going to keep moving forward.”

The second half of the long road swing sends Forrest to Community (Jan. 17), Marshall County (Jan. 21), and Nolensville (Jan. 24).
