Having handed the Elks their lone loss of the season, A-Plus Collision Center (4-8, 3-8) appeared poised to pull off the upset early on and held a 3-1 lead through the first one and a half innings of play.
The Elks, however, eventually righted the ship and outscored APCC 6-0 the rest of the way to claim their 11th win of the year.
Stats
Bolstered by a four-run third inning, the Elks finished with seven hits and four walks against three A-Plus Collision pitchers. Although they turned two double plays, APPC made their pitching staff's job harder by committing six errors, which led to four of the Elks' seven runs.
Ben Taylor (2 RBI), Wilson Limbaugh, and Derrick McKnight tallied two hits apiece to lead the Elks offensively, while Will Vanhooser added a hit and a walk.
A-Plus Collision Center starting pitcher Brayden Gentry suffered the loss after yielding six runs, three earned, over three innings on five hits and three walks.
Elks' pitchers issued five walks and plunked two APPC batters, but A-Plus Collision mustered only three hits in the contest and left 11 runners on base overall, including nine in scoring position.
Lead hitter
Gentry paced APCC at the plate by going 2-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base, while Bryce Wunderlin notched a hit, a stolen base, a RBI, and a run scored.
Reliever J.D. Crabtree picked up the victory on the mound for the Elks and allowed one unearned run over two innings on four walks. Elks starting hurler Will Johnson lasted just one inning and surrendered two unearned runs on one hit. McKnight also saw time on the hill for the Elks and gave up two hits and a walk in three scoreless innings of work.
A-Plus Collision Center grabbed the momentum early and pushed across two runs in the top of the first inning with the help of three Elk errors and a RBI single by Wunderlin to take a 2-0 lead.
The Elks cut the deficit to 2-1 in the bottom of the first when Limbaugh belted a leadoff triple into the right centerfield gap before scoring on a sacrifice fly by Taylor.
APCC quickly counterpunched and plated another run in the top of the second to stretch their lead to 3-1. After being hit by a pitch, Jamaria Ridley stole second and advanced to third on a Elk throwing error. Ethan Evans then drew a walk before Ridley scored on an error.
Lead changes
In the bottom of the second, the Elks narrowed the gap to 3-2 when McKnight scored on a A-Plus Collision Center throwing error after singling, stealing second, and advancing to third on a Vanhooser groundout.
APCC left the bases loaded in the top of the third before the Elks crossed home plate four times in the bottom half of the frame on the strength of single by Limbaugh, three errors, a Taylor RBI single, two walks, a double steal, an infield single by McKnight, and a RBI groundout by Bubba Jones to seize a 6-3 advantage.
After A-Plus Collision Center left three runners in scoring position over the next two innings, the Elks tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth with the help of two more APPC errors to forge a 7-3 lead.
McKnight then worked around a one-out single by Gentry in the top of the sixth before the game's time limit expired.
