CHAPEL HILL — It was a battle behind the arc in the first quarter between the Forrest Rockets and Fairview Yellowjackets Tuesday night in Chapel Hill, the Yellow Jackets claiming the 62-44 win.
The Yellow Jackets knocked down three, three-pointers within the first two minutes of the game, ending the quarter with a total of five, outscoring the Rockets 20-12.
Jimmy Bond and Davin Porter chipped in behind the arc for the Rockets, keeping Forrest alive in the first frame.
Throughout the competition, Fairview’s Mays McCoy and Nathan Dillingham continued to play the long game, draining four threes a piece.
At the half, the Yellowjackets had a sturdy 14-point lead.
Although the Rockets came out in the second half putting up a fight, Ryan Meglis having a strong fourth quarter scoring six of his seven, the deficit created in the first half was too much to overcome.
Davin Porter led the Rockets with 14 points. McCoy led all scorers with 18.
Forrest will play at home again this Friday against Grundy County in a district matchup.
Tip off is set for 7:30 pm.
