For the second year, First Commerce Bank is providing financial literacy education to the students of the three high schools in Marshall County through the EverFi Financial Literacy learning platform. The platform offers courses aimed at teaching, assessing and certifying students in a variety of relevant financial topics, including credit scores, insurance, credit cards, student loans, mortgages, taxes, stocks, savings, 401Ks and other critical concepts. By completing the various sessions, students will be come more informed, responsible citizens.

“We believe it is important to arm young people with the skills to navigate an increasingly complex financial system. First Commerce Bank is excited to offer students an innovative educational experience to teach these important topics,” said Kristen Gold, SVP of First Commerce Bank and current Marshall County School Board Member.

All high school students in Tennessee must complete a personal finance course as a graduation requirement. The EverFi 10-unit course uses the latest in new media technology to bring complex financial concepts to life for today’s digital generation. By partnering with First Commerce Bank to utilize the course, titled First Commerce Bank Financial FITness Program, the Marshall County School System was able to eliminate the cost of the personal finance curriculum, a savings of approximately $38,000 annually.

“We appreciate First Commerce Bank providing a financial literacy curriculum to the students of Marshall County free of charge,” stated Director of Schools Jacob Sorrells. “This is a great program for our students that provides them with real world skills for life, satisfies a state graduation requirement, and is presented in a digital format that prepares them for future on-line learning. It also creates a tremendous savings for Marshall County Schools and allows us to redirect funds to other areas of need.

“We can’t thank First Commerce Bank enough for this very generous donation.”
