After scratching their way to the five hundred mark on the season, the FMS Lady Rockets stumbled against Moore County in Chapel Hill Thursday night, losing 28-23 in a low scoring affair.

Forrest's Sydney Hill went to the free throw line on the first offensive possession of the game and hit one attempt before Moore County's Abbi Harvey scored her only basket of the game.

Stevie Ray and Anna King scored for FMS, making it 5-2 until Anna Smith scored on a steal and score for Moore County.

Anna Blanton matched the Smith basket for FMS and the Lady Rockets held the precarious lead right to the last few seconds of the quarter when Smith made two free throws to tie the game at 7-7.

In the second quarter, the contest was tightly contested and the lead changed hands five times with the last see-saw coming on a buzzer-beating 3-pointer by Smith to end the first half with the Lady Raiders in front by a single digit at 17-16.

Kynleigh Fanning made it a 19-16 contest with a basket to begin the low scoring third quarter that saw FMS make just one throw by Stevie Ray for their only point in the period.

Moore County would only come up with one more field goal in the stanza on a lay-up by Smith.

Emily Yost came up with a big three-point play in the paint for Forrest at the outset of period No. 4, cutting the Moore County margin to a single digit at 21-20.

The Lady Raiders got hot at the wrong time for Forrest, going on a 6-0 run that built their lead to 27-10 with 1:26 remaining in the contest.

The hometown girls would not be able to mount the comeback, falling by the slim five-point margin.

The Lady Rockets, 4-5 in conference play, host arch rival Cascade in the last regular season home game for FMS on Monday with tip-off for the girls' game set for 6 PM.
