After being dealt a crushing blow at MTCS on Monday, the FMS Rockets bounced back with a bruising 37-30 home victory over Eagleville.

Jacob Rich opened the scoring in the game with a rebound and put-back for Forrest before the Eagles sandwiched two baskets around a Dylan Jones free throw for FMS, making it a 4-3 contest in favor of the visitors.

Big block

Daniil Yatskov came up with a blocked shot for Forrest and the Rockets took the lead again at 5-4 on a bucket in the paint by Jones.

That would be the last score in the period for Forrest as Eagleville big man Chavalier Sutton went to work in the low post, finishing the first quarter with consecutive buckets in the paint, giving the Eagles an 8-5 margin after the first six minutes.

Sutton scored in the low post to begin the second quarter, doubling the lead for Eagleville at 10-5 before Dustin Brashear rained down a three-bomb that sparked a 6-0 Forrest run and a one-point lead for the Rockets at 11-10 with 1:37 remaining in the first half.

A Sutton bucket seesawed the lead back to Eagleville before Ty Hengesbach gave FMS a 14-12 lead at the half with a three-pointer in front of the visitors' bench with just a few ticks remaining on the clock.

Close game

Brashear picked up right where the Rockets left off, nailing his second trey of the contest to begin the second half.

Dawson Reed answered with a three-pointer for Eagleville, and two possessions later, Sutton tied the game 17 with a bruising basket in the paint.

Yatskov matched the low-post conversion at the other end to give the Rockets a 19-17 lead before the scoring went cold for both sides over the next two minutes.

Parker Stuard made two free throws for the Eagles as time wound down, but once Brashear came up huge, firing a long range missile for a trio of points at the buzzer, making it a 22-19 contest, entering the fourth and final period.

Jones scored for Forrest at the outset of the stanza, but Cody Pepper matched the bucket for the Rutherford County squad.

Moments later, Sutton edged the Eagles to within a single digit at 24-23, forcing an FMS timeout with 3:48 remaining in the third period.

Rockets pull away

After the stoppage, Alex Huey scored on a pretty runner in the lane before a miscue by Eagleville led to a Rich basket, extending the Rockets' lead to 28-23.

Rich would hit two free throws with 1:45 remaining in the contest, making it 30-23 FMS.

Eagleville would begin to foul the Rockets in an attempt to get back in the game with the clocked stopped, but FMS hit four out of eight from the three throw line and led 34-25 with 30.4 seconds left.

The Eagles called timeout and came out of the stoppage with a three-pointer by Stuard, but that would be the last gasp for Eagleville, as Forrest held firm to take the seven-point win.

Scorers

Brashear led the Rockets in the scoring column with 11 points, including three treys, while Rich was also in double figures with 10 points for FMS.

Jones and Hengesbach ended up with five points apiece and Huey and Yatskov tallied a trio of points for the home team.

Sutton had 11 points for Eagleville, Reed scored eight, Stuard netted four, Ethan Coble added a three, and Pepper tallied a deuce.
