The Forrest Lady Rockets (5-3) snapped a two-game losing streak on Thursday afternoon by going on the road and defeating county rival Cornersville 7-2.

Forrest had a tough time shaking the Lady Bulldogs (6-5-1) early on and were locked in a 2-2 tie with CHS late in the first half prior to notching a goal in the waning moments of the stanza to take a 3-2 lead into the break.

The Lady Rockets then opened up a 4-2 advantage midway through the second half before turning on the afterburners late in the game and tallying three goals in the final seven minutes of the contest en route to claiming their second straight win over Cornersville.

Shot leaders

Bolstered by their second half surge, Forrest outshot the Lady Bulldogs 21-10 overall. Junior striker Cassie Septer scored three goals to spearhead the Lady Rockets' offensive onslaught while Sierra Waggoner added a goal and two assists. Rickee Gayle Carter, Sarah Blasingim, and Haley Lowe each tallied a goal for FHS as well with Carter registering an assist.

Senior striker Amala Elder scored both Cornersville goals and attempted a team high seven shots. Anna Claire Foster also took three shots for Cornersville.

In net, CHS goalie Hope Taylor recorded 10 saves, while Forrest goaltender Caitlyn Yost had five saves.

Keeping it close

The Lady Rockets took a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute when Septer received a pass from Carter on the right side of the field and rifled a 15-yard shot inside the right post.

Elder quickly knotted the match at 1-1 by scoring a goal in the 17th minute. After Elder launched a long range shot towards the FHS goal, Yost was unable to cleanly handle the ball before Elder ran up and kicked in the rebound.

Septer then put Forrest back on top in the 18th minute by making a run down the left side of the field and firing a close range shot past Taylor to stake the Lady Rockets to a 2-1 advantage.

In the 34th minute, Elder retied the score at 2-2 when she beat a FHS defender in the middle of the field and curled a 15-yard shot into the upper left hand corner of the net.

Taylor made a couple of nice saves over the next five minutes to maintain the tie, but the Lady Rockets pulled ahead 3-2 in 40th minute after a CHS defender accidently redirected a corner kick by Blasingim into the right side of the net.

Breaking loose

FHS then opened up some breathing room midway through the second half when Septer took a pass from Waggoner on the right side of the net and blasted a close range shot into the upper left hand corner of the net to give Forrest a 4-2 advantage in the 59th minute.

The Lady Bulldogs had a chance to cut into the deficit in the 75th minute after the Lady Rockets were called for a hand ball in the goalie box, but Elder lined the penalty kick off the top post.

That missed opportunity came back to haunt Cornersville almost immediately, as Waggoner won a loose ball in front of the CHS net less than 60 seconds later and hammered home a 10-yard shot to make it 5-2.

Forrest then tacked on two more goals during injury time when Lowe and Carter both scored on wide open shots in the final two minutes of the contest to cap FHS' 7-2 triumph.
