The family of Thomas V. Hayes gathered on Tuesday for the dedication of the bridge over Belfast Creek on Finley Beech Road in his memory.
Hayes was a lifelong resident of the community, married to Grace Helen Glenn for 59 years and raising children Tommy, Brenda, and Rita on a farm within sight of the bridge.
He was a carpenter and proud of the construction of many of the prominent Tennessee Walking Horse barns at stables all over the area.
He was a deacon at Belfast Union Presbyterian Church, noted for 36 years of perfect attendance, and a member of the Rock Creek Bible Society, serving one term as president.
