The city of Lewisburg’s newly formed Historic Zoning Commission held their organizational meeting on Monday.
Members selected for the board include Barbara Woods, Faris Phillips, Melanie Gordon, and David McKenzie, with C.H. Harwell serving as the as the council representative on the board.
The commission chose McKenzie to serve as chairman with Woods as secretary and Phillips as vice chair.
The city established the commission this year along with a resolution that paved the way to designate a downtown historic district.
The downtown area was singled out in the city’s Vision Lewisburg 2035 long range plan but has been the last of the goals outlined in the plan to be addressed.
The current boundary of the downtown area consists of the square and a one block radius but the commission will consider expansion of the area if justified.
The commission expects to meet regularly for the next few months while they establish boundaries and combine existing guidelines with suggested additions into a comprehensive framework for the downtown area.
Once complete, they will meet as needed when projects in the designated area come before the city.
