Jamborees prelude to gridiron's return

Friday night, at Preston Hopkins Field in Lewisburg, Tom Turchetta's Marshall County Tigers will host a six-team jamboree, beginning at 6:00 p.m. when the Cornersville Bulldogs (4-7) take on Zion Christian Academy (4-7).

Big Dawg, Ray Stocstill will take a good look at his ballclub and he won't have to look too far to find what makes the offensive engine rumble.

The head coach's son, Joe is in his final year at Cornersville and the senior has already put up some impressive numbers over three years and would love to end his career by guiding the Bulldogs to their first winning record since 1994 and a playoff berth.

Turchetta, in his second year as Marshall County (4-7) head coach will get a chance to execute his near final blueprint to the Lewisburg squad when they face off with not so old nemesis, David Lipscomb (9-4) in the third one-hour game at 8:30.

The middle game will pit Centennial (2-8) versus Coffee County (3-8) at 7:30.

The Tigers were just a couple of plays away from a winning season last year and Turchetta has had an entire year to implement his game plan, one surely to include a big dose of the all-purpose senior Kevin Peterson, who can take it to the house at any moment.

Sophomore Austin Stacey will start at quarterback and hardnosed signal caller gained some valuable experience as a freshman last year which, coupled with a full offseason to study offensive coordinator Steven McClanahan's playbook, should have the youngster ahead of the curve.

On Saturday, at the Rock in Chapel Hill, Kyle Stacey and his young cache of Forrest Rockets (6-5) will also play the third game of a three-team jamboree when they take on archrival Cascade (8-4) in a game that will be full of vanilla schemes as the two teams will meet for real in Week 8.

Graduation has hit the Rockets hard, but they have one of the best running backs in the state in their stable in senior Zach Ray.

Ray, along with the bruising fullback Richie Smith will lead an offensive that will try to grind out, but they won't be afraid to sling it with the talented Brooks Lamb at quarterback.

The first game of the night, beginning at 6:30 p.m. features Mt. Juliet Christian (2-8) versus Huntland (3-7), followed by Eagleville (5-6) versus Community (0-10) at 7:30.
