On Wednesday, the Cornersville Lady Bulldogs recorded their second straight lopsided victory when they crushed District 11-A foe Santa Fe 17-2 on the road in five innings to complete the season sweep of the Lady Wildcats.

After scoring 20 runs in the their last outing against Columbia Central two days earlier, the Lady Bulldogs (5-4, 4-2 District) continued to pound the ball on Wednesday and cranked out 18 hits against Santa Fe starting pitcher Bailey Staggs and reliever Maddi Lusk to go along with four walks and three Lady Wildcat errors.

Kaitlyn Rogers (5 RBI), Taylor Wolaver (3 RBI), MandiLynn Calahan (1 RBI), and Miranda Cooksey (1 RBI) all tallied three hits to help ignite Cornersville's offensive explosion. Kelsey Wortham (2 RBI) and Makayla Campbell (1 RBI) notched two hits apiece for the Lady Bulldogs as well, while Ashley Beard and starting pitcher Briley Bean both added one hit and a RBI.

First win

Bean also went the distance in the circle to earn her first victory of the season and yielded eight hits and three walks in five innings work to go along with three strikeouts.

Randi McElhaney (1 RBI), Meg Lusk, and Allie Lusk all had two hits to pace the Lady Wildcats at the plate.

The Lady Bulldogs pounced on Santa Fe early and crossed home plate six times in the top of the first inning with the help of two Lady Wildcat errors, a Calahan walk, a RBI single by Campbell, a Rogers two-run double, and a pair of RBI doubles from Beard and Wortham to take a 6-0 lead.

Santa Fe narrowed the gap to 6-1 in the bottom of the first on a RBI single by McElhaney, but Cornersville responded with three runs in the top of the second to open up a 9-1 advantage.

Following a leadoff double by Calahan, courtesy runner Amala Elder advanced to third on a wild pitch. After Campbell drew a walk and stole second, Rogers belted a two-run double into the left centerfield gap to make it 8-1. Rogers then advanced to third on a foul out by Carson Coble before scoring on a throwing error by Staggs on the play.

The Lady Wildcats loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the second thanks to a walk and two infield singles by Meg Lusk and Jennifer Shoust, but Bean retired Morgan Anderson on a fly out to extinguish the threat.

Three more runs

In the top of the third, CHS hung up another crooked number and pushed across three runs in the frame behind a leadoff single by Cooksey, a Calahan RBI double, and a couple of RBI singles from Rogers and Wolaver to stretch their lead to 12-1.

Santa Fe trimmed the deficit to 12-2 in the bottom of the third on a RBI fielder's choice by Maddi Lusk, but the Lady Bulldogs plated five more runs in the top of the fifth with the aid of a leadoff single by Campbell, a hit batsman, a Wolaver RBI single, a double steal, a RBI double by Bean, a Wortham RBI single, and a RBI double by Cooksey to forge a 17-2 advantage.

Bean then worked around a one-out single by Allie Lusk to keep the mercy rule in effect.
