Senior star
After being honored before the game, senior pitcher Taylor Wolaver turned in a strong performance in the circle to notch her first shutout of the season, as she yielded five hits in five innings of work while issuing no walks and recording six strikeouts.
The Lady Bulldogs mustered just two hits and a walk against Fayetteville starting pitcher Riley Fleming, but took advantage of five Lady Tiger errors, which led to all three CHS runs.
Wolaver doubled and drove in a run to account for Cornersville's lone extra base hit of the contest, while Mary Taylor Hickman singled. Madison Hopkins also drew a walk for the Lady Bulldogs.
Mckenzie Moorehead tallied two hits to lead Fayetteville at the plate, while Mikayla Pridemore, Shelby Peardon, and Erin Wakefield each had one hit.
Early lead
Wolaver worked around a single by Moorehead in the top of the first inning before Cornersville scored a run in the bottom half of the frame to grab a 1-0 lead. After Miranda Cooksey reached base on an error and advanced to second on a groundout by Hopkins, Wolaver ripped a RBI double to left field.
Fayetteville had a chance to tie the game in the top of the third when Moorehead doubled with two outs, but Wolaver retired Fleming on a groundout to extinguish the threat.
The Lady Tigers then had an opportunity to potentially take the lead in the top of the fourth after loading the bases with two outs on singles by Pridemore, Peardon, and Wakefield. Fayetteville once again was unable to cash in, as Wolaver retired Aundrea Welch on a groundout to escape the inning unscathed.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Lady Bulldogs gave Wolaver some wiggle room by plating two runs in the frame with the help of a leadoff single by Hickman and two Lady Tiger errors to open up a 3-0 advantage.
Wolaver then sat down Fayetteville in order in the top of the fifth to wrap up the victory for Cornersville.
