The Forrest Lady Rockets continued their torrid start this season as they made the short trek to Eagleville Friday night and came away with an easy 66-39 win for their sixth victory in a row.
“We came out of the gate swinging tonight, any time your post player hits two threes in row, you know you’re going to have a good night offensively,” Forrest coach Jeremy Jean said. “They came out at us and kept it close for a while, but we kept the game at the pace we wanted to play.”

Forrest (8-1) had three players in double figures in the scoring column with Carissa Curtis leading the way with 23 points while Laura Mealer netted 17 and Jaide Langley had 10.
Ally Blanton had eight points and Anna Blanton, Alex Davenport, Ryann Lewis, and Shea Lewis all netted a deuce.
The Lady Rockets went bombs away versus the Lady Eagles, draining 10 three-pointers as Curtis and Mealer nailed three apiece while Langley and Ally Blanton fired home two each.
“Carissa is really rounding in to form,” Jean said. “The biggest difference with her between this year and last year is she trusts her teammates more this year because of her injury, she got to see them at the end of the year last year and step up and make some plays.”
Mealer banged home two early treys, but Eagleville held an early 7-6 lead before Forrest took off, doubling up the score at 14-7 on a Mealer three-point play the old-fashioned way, a Shea Lewis bucket in the low post, and a Curtis 3-pointer.
“Our success this year has a lot do with Shea coming off the bench and giving us a boost,” Jean said. “It’s not like we gotta put somebody in and I hope they don’t mess up, she comes out and battles the girl, gets elbowed in the mouth and eye and kept battling and battling and battling, so she does a really good job sparking us off the bench and that will have a lot to do with our success.”
Lizzy Thompson, who along with Mckayla Moates led the Lady Eagles with 12 points, broke the Forrest run before Curtis came up with a drive to the hoop and another 3-pointer to give the Lady Rockets a 19-10 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Forrest began the second period with a big 8-0 run behind back-to-back 3-pointers by Curtis and Mealer to stretch the lead to 27-10.
The Lady Eagles tried to comeback as Haley Ferguson capped off a 6-0 run with a 3-pointer, making it an 11-point game with just over two minutes to play in the second quarter.
Langley drilled a 3-pointer and after an Eagleville missed field goal, Alex Davenport scored on a backdoor play to double up the score again at 32-16.
Thompson hit two free throws at the end of the first half and Ally Blanton started the second half with a 3-pointer for Forrest.
Moates scored in the low post for Eagleville before Forrest made another backbreaking run on a pair of buckets by Curtis and a drive to the dish by Mealer that increased the Lady Rockets’ lead to 20 points at 41-21.
A Langley 3-pointer increased the Forrest lead to 22 points and an Ally Blanton trey gave the Lady Rockets a 24-point lead late in the third quarter until two free throws by Eagleville’s Anna Grace Clement made it a 53-31 contest, entering the fourth quarter.
Forrest did not stop the surge as they led 64-37 on a Langley layup with just over three minutes to play in the contest when both coaches emptied the benches.
“They are happy, some didn’t like getting in foul trouble, but we played fine, we came out with a win and will enjoy it over the weekend and get ready to go over to Summertown and play,” Jean said.
The Lady Rockets travel to Summertown tomorrow night before a 10-day Christmas break when they return back to Lawrence County for the Summertown (4-2) Christmas Classic with games versus Decatur County Riverside (5-3) and Santa Fe (0-7) on December 27 and 28.
“It’s one of two things, we can either go over there (Summertown) and play really, really well and beat them or play really, really bad and get blown out,” Jean said. “We need to go over there and set our tempo and play our game and I think if we keep running in that small gym, we will never get tired and I think our press will be effective because we are flying around a little more than we have in the past.”
