The Forrest Lady Rockets (1-5) put a scare into an undefeated Creek Wood team on Friday afternoon, but were unable to keep pace with the Lady Red Hawks for all four quarters, as the defending District 11-AA champs defeated FHS 67-55 at the Forrest Thanksgiving Tournament.

Aided by some red hot outside shooting, Forrest built a 36-32 lead in the first half and held a 44-43 advantage midway through the third quarter.

The Lady Rockets, though, couldn't hold off Creek Wood down the stretch, as the Lady Red Hawks outscored FHS 24-11 the rest of the way to take home the 12-point victory.

Forrest scorched the nets for much of the game and shot 54 percent (20-of-37) from the floor through the first three quarters of play, highlighted by a 5-of-10 effort from three point range.

The Lady Rockets then ran out of fuel in the fourth quarter and made just 2-of-11 shot attempts in the stanza to finish 22-of-48 from the field overall.

Creek Wood did force 23 turnovers by Forrest with the help of their full court press, but FHS outrebounded the Lady Red Hawks 28-16 and held an 8-5 edge on the offensive boards.

"I was happy with our effort and execution for the most part. We haven't shot the ball like we're capable of this year, but we finally had some shots fall today and that was the most important thing," said Forrest coach Jeremy Jean. "We have to play an up and down style of game. Committing 23 turnovers isn't good, but overall I was pleased with our transition game and only three or four of those turnovers turned into quick buckets for them."

Hannah Phifer drilled four treys and paced FHS with 14 points, while Caitlyn Yost, Kirsten Holder, and Amanda Chumbley each tallied seven points. Savannah Brothers and Hannah Evans added six points apiece as well, and Candace Daughrity notched five points. Scarlett Roberson also chipped in three points for the Lady Rockets.

"Hannah is a capable outside shooter and knocked down some shots for us today," said Jean. "Our bench played well today too. They've given us a spark on most nights especially when we've had trouble scoring."

Despite hitting only 5-of-17 attempts from beyond the arc, Creek Wood shot a blistering 54 percent (27-of-50) from the floor overall and committed only 11 turnovers.

Junior guard Rachel Bell showed why several SEC schools have shown interest in her and spearheaded the Lady Red Hawks offensive attack by pouring in a game high 30 points on 14-of-20 shooting to go along with 11 assists, seven steals, and four rebounds. Lamarra Gordon followed Bell with 16 points, while Leah Grubb added 10 points.

The Lady Rockets came out firing on all cylinders and raced out to a 14-6 lead midway through the first quarter with the aid of five points from Yost, four points from Brothers, and a Roberson three.

Bell tallied six of the next eight points to trim the deficit to 16-12, before Holder scored on a layup late in the first to give Forrest a 18-12 advantage at the end of the quarter.

Creek Wood then went on a 16-8 run to pull ahead 28-26 midway through the second period, but Forrest outscored the Lady Red Hawks 10-4 over the final 3:05 of the first half behind six points from Evans and a Phifer trey to take a 36-32 lead into the break.

After Creek Wood opened the second half with an 11-5 spurt to pull ahead 43-41, Phifer canned another three from the right wing to put the Lady Rockets back on top 44-43 with 4:00 left in the third period.

Creek Wood then put together 13-6 run to grab a 56-50 lead early in the fourth quarter, but Holder buried a trey and Yost hit a runner to narrow the gap to 56-55.

Forrest, however, saw their offense stall after that point and failed to score again over the final 6:15 of the game, while the Lady Red Hawks notched the final 11 points of the contest to pull away for the 67-55 victory.
