Lady Rockets notch another district win vs. Cascade

CHAPEL HILL — A hot start carried Forrest to an 8-2 district 9-AA win over Cascade on Thursday night at the Lady Rockets Field of Dreams, withForrest scoring all eight runs in the first two innings before stalling out.
Senior Macyn Kirby led off for the Lady Rockets in the bottom of the first, picking up a walk and then stealing second.
Maggie Daughrity’s speed was too much for the Cascade defense and she safely reached first on a bunt, advancing Kirby to third.
Eighth-grader Taylor Moreland stepped to the plate picking up an RBI with a base hit to right, scoring Kirby.
Forrest followed up with a sacrifice bunt from Carli Warner to score Daughrity.
Forrest pumped the brakes there, but picked up steam in the bottom of the second for six more runs.
Sarah King reached first after being hit by a pitch, followed by successful bunts from Jenna Goodman and Kirby.
Daughrity took advantage of the the loaded bases, knocking a solid hit into left field for a triple, scoring all runners.
Cascade’s pitching got a little shaky, hitting one batter and walking three more to score Hailey Warren, then Christa Warren pouncing on the chance to score on a wild pitch.
It was Caitlin Fannin crossing the plate first for the Lady Champions in the top of the third inning after a hit up the middle from Sophie Ray, and a single shot over the center wall from Champions pitcher Brianna Horn in the top of the 6th that completed the offensive effort from Cascade.
Forrest pitcher Ella Chilton picked up the win for the Lady Rockets, Emory Hall and Moreland in relief.
Daughrity led the Lady Rocekts with her three-hit and three RBI night.
Warner also had a solid night, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs to her credit.
Chilton pitched three innings and gave up one run on five hits while striking out five.
Forrest hosts Community in a key District 7-AA matchup on Thursday evening.
