Young slammers
It was big show in the batters box for Forrest as they banged out 15 hits in the shortened game with a pair of youngsters leading the way.
Eighth grader Jordan Yelensky bombed her second home run of the season in a 3-3 performance that also included a double, one base on balls, and three runs scored.
Freshman Samantha King also belted a long dinger, her first of the season in a 3-4 effort at the plate with four runs scored, a walk, and three ribbies.
Another freshman turned in a red-hot performance as Lainey Mays went 2-2 with one base on balls, four RBIs and two runs scored.
Sudden stop
In the top of the first inning, the first seven Independence hitters all reached base and scored with the big blow coming off the bat of Eagle hurler Christi Crews, who belted a grand slam.
From there, Warrick did not allow a base runner and only one ball hit by Independence left the infield.
The Lady Rockets were unfazed by the early deficit when they sent a dozen batters to the plate in the bottom of the first and scored eight runs with the eventual game winner coming on the shortest hit of the night for Forrest, a bunt single RBI by Kiyoko Puca.
Warrick set down the Lady Eagles 1-2-3 in the top of the second before the Lady Rockets went off again, scoring a half dozen runs on just three hits in the bottom of the frame as they batted around again.
Ahead to stay
Independence could not solve Warrick in the top of the third, and in the home half of the stanza, the Lady Rockets put the game away on just six hits as Mays drove in two, Amanda Patterson drove in two and Yelensky added her two-run bomb before a walk to Warrick was followed by King's moon-shot game-winner over the left-field fence.
Jordan went (2-2, 2RS, RBI) and Savannah Brothers (2-3, 2RS) had two hits, while Puca (1-3, RBI, SB) had one base knock for the Lady Rockets, who will be looking for revenge Thursday night when they host Moore County.
The Lady Rockets squandered a 7-1 lead at Moore County in an 8-7 loss in Lynchburg on March 20.
