Lady Rockets win 5 in Raptor Classic

BRENTWOOD — The Forrest Lady Rockets had a busy slate of games over the weekend in the Raptor Classic, hosted by Ravenwood.
Forrest competed against teams from various classifications from all over the state and went 5-2 in the ‘Classic.

FRIDAY
Jo Byrns 9, Forrest 7
Friday night’s game against Jo Byrns was an up and down rollercoaster for the Lady Rockets.
Forrest fell behind early, rallied for a lead, then saw the game slip away with Jo Byrns rallying for five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Taylor Moreland went 2-for-2 with two doubles and a RBI to lead the Lady Rockets at the plate.
Maggie Daughrity also slugged a double.
Moreland pitched three innings and gave up four runs on eight hits while striking out one.

Forrest 7, Obion Co. 0
After falling to Jo Byrns, Forrest struck back in convincing fashion with a one-hit shutout in a 7-0 win over Obion County.
Forrest tagged the Lady Rebs for three runs in the first inning and followed with two more in the top of the second.
The highlight at the dish came in the third inning on a two-run homer off the bat of Sarah King.
In total, the Lady Rockets battered the Obion County pitching for nine hits.
Julie Williams and Ella Chilton combined to pitch a one-hitter for the Lady Rockets.
Chilton went three innings and struck out four, while giving up one hit. Williams pitched one inning and struck out the side.

SATURDAY
Forrest 7, White House 0
On Saturday, Forrest went to work and hammered White House in a 7-0 win.
In the four-inning win, the Lady Rockets mashed out 14 hits, with five different players connecting on two hits.
In total, Forrest had five hits go for extra bases.
Christa Warren went 2-for-2 and drove in three runs to lead the Lady Rocket offense.
Forrest plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning, but the Lady Rockets blew the game open with a five-spot in the bottom of the third.
Forrest got its second-straight shutout with the combined effort of Emory Hall and Taylor Moreland.
Moreland went three innings and gave up four hits, but didn’t give up a run. Hall pitched one inning and struck out one while giving up one hit.

Forrest 7, Wilson Central 5
The Lady Rockets had to survive a four-run rally against Wilson Central in the three-inning game on Saturday.
In the end, Forrest was able to outlast Wilson Central for the 7-5 win, despite being out-hit 13-8.
Carli Warren drove in the game’s first run in the top of the first, but Wilson Central struck back with the tying run in the bottom of the inning.
But Forrest seemingly blew the game open in the second inning with a RBI double by Jenna Goodman and a two RBI triple off the bat of Taylor Moreland.
Abby Ferguson led off the third with a solo shot to center field and Goodman followed with her second RBI of the game on a single to ground ball single to center field.
Wilson Central made things interesting in the bottom of the third, notably with a two-run homer to pull within two runs of the Lady Rocket lead, but Ella Chilton was able to work out of the danger and secure the win for the Lady Rockets.

Forrest 8, Jo Byrns 1
After falling to Jo Byrns on Friday night, Forrest got a little payback on Saturday against the Lady Red Devils in a convincing 8-1 win .
Carli Warren led the way at the plate for Forrest with two home runs, including a leadoff homer in the top of the second and a two-run blast in the top of the third.
Warren went 3-for-3 and knocked in three runs, while Jenna Goodman went 2-for-3 with two doubles and a pair of RBIs to her credit as well.
Ella Chilton pitched all four innings for Forrest and struck out five, while giving up one unearned run on three hits.

Forrest 4, Nolensville 3
Forrest had to survive another last-inning rally against Nolensville on Saturday, but a fourth-run scored in the top of the second inning proved to be the difference in the 4-3 win over they Lady Knights.
Carli Warner knocked in the first run on a first-inning single and Christa Warren followed with a two RBI double to give Forrest a 3-0 lead.
A fourth run scored when Carli Warner drew a bases-loaded walk, scoring Jenna Goodman.
Things got scary for the Lady Rockets in the bottom of the fourth with Nolensville slugging out back-to-back RBI doubles.
But pitcher Ella Chilton was able to settle in and pitch to contact and get a ground out for the final out of the game.
Both Warrens drove in two runs apiece in the win.
Chilton gave up three runs on seven hits, while striking out one.

Green Hill 5, Forrest 1
One big inning was more than Forrest could overcome in the final game of the Raptor Classic against Green Hill on Saturday.
Green Hill plated five runs on two RBI singles and a two-run homer to take a 5-0 lead over Forrest in the bottom of the third.
Forrest got one back in the top of the fourth on a RBI single by Abby Ferguson, but couldn’t generate any more run support.
