Lewisburg youth raises award-winning cattle

Mason Nipper Collins, grandson of Lewisburg’s Grover Collins, has worked hard to focus on incorporating strong Hereford genetics in his herd to produce high quality beef.

The life skills developed through the exhibition of Hereford cattle at regional, state, and national levels have also created a foundation for Mason Collins to gain success in the show ring as well as producing quality animals for sale.

Mason began showing Hereford cattle in 2012 as a 4-H Beef Project with the purchase of two Hereford heifers. As a result of those purchases, his herd has grown to more than 30 head.

Due in part to Mason’s strong work ethic, this month he was recognized as a 2016 Purina Honor Show Chow Top Performers. The program is a youth awards program for grand and reserve champion winners of livestock show competitions. He exhibited the 2016 Champion Hereford Female at the Tennessee Junior Livestock Expo. Top performing youth are recognized by Purina Animal Nutrition for successfully implementing “leading edge” nutrition with Honor Show Chow products.

Lewisburg Farm Center has played a tremendous roll in Mason’s success in the show ring and in the production of top selling animals. They have provided knowledge, support, and experience of Purina feed products. Bill and Nancy McCullough and Johnathan Allen were the driving forces at the Farm Center who helped assist Mason.

Mason is the son of Matt and Meredith Collins, as well as the grandson of Grover and Peggy Collins of Lewisburg, and Tommy and Linda Nipper of Pikeville.
