The Lewisburg Middle School Tigers (7-4) completed the season sweep of E.O. Coffman on Monday night by defeating the Panthers 50-38 at home.
E.O. Coffman, meanwhile, got the better of LMS in the girls' game, as the Lady Panthers thumped the Tigerettes 43-23 to capture the regular season series between the two teams.
The Tigers got off to a solid start and built a 13-9 lead in the first quarter with the help of 10 points from Caleb Fields.
Stronger lead
After taking a 20-16 advantage into halftime, Lewisburg opened up some breathing room in the third quarter by putting together a 17-11 run behind seven points from Wesley Walker and four points apiece from Fields and Kamron Liggett-Hightower to push their lead to 37-27.
LMS then kept E.O. Coffman at arms' length down the stretch and outscored the Panthers 13-11 in the fourth period on the strength of eight points from Fields to claim their third straight victory.
After averaging 28.5 points in his last two contests, Fields continued his recent scoring tear by pouring in a game high 24 points. K.J. Johnson followed Fields with 10 points, while Walker and Liggett-Hightower both notched seven points. Keshun Gentry rounded out the scoring for the Tigers with two points.
"I think the key to the win was that we were very balanced. We had multiple guys score and help Caleb out," said Lewisburg coach David Lovell. "We had some breakdowns defensively, but we played well offensively."
Hunter Hagan and Sam Crane paced E.O. Coffman with 12 points apiece. Austin Harrison also added seven points for the Panthers, while Rob McGuire and Austin Clanton chipped in four and three points respectively.
Tigerettes
In the opening game of the night, E.O. Coffman knocked the Tigerettes (5-6) on their heels early, as they built an 11-3 lead in the first quarter before going on a 10-2 run in the second period to forge a 21-5 advantage at the break.
After stretching their lead to 33-16 in the third quarter, the Lady Panthers outscored LMS 10-7 in the fourth period to cap their 20-point victory.
Kylie Rosson led E.O. Coffman with a game high 16 points and Reily Brazier tallied 11 points. Kennedy Holt and Macy Black also notched four points apiece, while Kenzie Doss and Tasha Kilburn both chipped in two points. Maci Birdyshaw rounded out the scoring for the Lady Panthers with one point.
"They made some good shots and they're very skilled offensively. They have good balance and were able to convert on our turnovers," said Tigerettes coach Chris Coleman. "We played well in the second half, but it's hard to overcome a 16-point deficit against a good team."
Alli Hobbs paced Lewisburg with seven points and Demariae Ingram notched six points. Leah Hollingsworth, Sydne Solomon, and Taylor Walls chipped in three points apiece for LMS as well, while Marlee Woodward had one point.
