On Friday, the Lewisburg Middle School Tigerettes (8-4) completed the season sweep of county rival Cornersville (6-5) when they went on the road and defeated the Lady Bulldogs 6-4 to snap CMS' three-game winning streak.

After narrowly beating Cornersville 8-7 in their previous meeting on March 8, the Tigerettes were involved in another tightly contested affair with the Lady Bulldogs on Friday, as the two teams battled to a 4-4 tie through the first six innings of play.

Winning runs

Lewisburg pushed across two runs in the top of the seventh to seize a 6-4 lead before holding Cornersville scoreless in the bottom half of the frame to claim their eighth victory of the year.

Lady Bulldog starting pitcher Kirsten Young limited the Tigerettes to a modest six hits in the contest to go along with three walks and nine strikeouts, but was unable to overcome four Cornersville errors, which contributed to three of LMS' six runs.

Catcher Sydne Soloman wielded the biggest stick for Lewisburg and went 2-for-4 with a triple, a homerun, 4 RBI, and two runs scored. Kathryn Donahue (1 RBI), Blair Richards, Taylor Walls, and Laura Beth Brown each registered a hit for the Tigerettes as well.

The Lady Bulldogs tallied nine hits and two walks against LMS starting hurler Halle Chapman, but left eight runners on base overall while Lewisburg committed only one error.

First baseman Courtney Darnell and Jewel Anne Walls both notched two hits to lead Cornersville at the plate with Darnell driving in a run. Young (1 RBI), Hannah Singleton (1 RBI), Samantha Prosser (1 RBI), Emma Mitchell and Mikaela King also had one hit apiece for the Lady Bulldogs.

Early homer

Solomon handed the Tigerettes an early 3-0 lead when she blasted a three-run homer over the left field fence in the top of the first inning after Richards and Taylor Walls reached base on an error and an infield single respectively.

The Lady Bulldogs left two runners on base in the bottom of the first, but pushed across three runs in the second inning to knot the game at 3-3. After Mitchell and King both singled to put runners on first and second with no outs, Darnell laced a double into the right centerfield gap to cut the deficit to 3-1. King then scored on a RBI groundout by Young before Singleton plated Darnell with a two-out RBI single.

Lewisburg stranded runners in scoring position in each of the next two innings, but took a 4-3 lead in the top of the fifth when Brandon scampered home on a RBI single by Donahue after reaching base on an error and advancing to second on a Brown single.

The Tigerettes lead would be short lived, as the Lady Bulldogs scratched out a run in the bottom of the fifth to tie the score at 4-4. Following a leadoff single by Singleton, Madison Hopkins hit into a fielder's choice to replace Singleton on the base paths. Hopkins then advanced to second on a Jewel Anne Walls groundout prior to scoring on a RBI single by Prosser.

Cornersville missed a chance to take the lead in the bottom of the sixth and left runners on the corners before Lewisburg plated two runs in the top of the seventh to grab a 6-4 advantage. After Taylor Walls reached base on an error, Solomon roped a RBI triple into the right centerfield gap prior to coming home on a RBI groundout by Brandon.

Chapman then worked around a one-out single by Jewel Anne Walls in the bottom of the seventh to secure the victory for the Tigerettes.
