Lynch’s single wins it for Tigerettes at Tullahoma

TULLAHOMA — There were plenty of body blows in what felt like a heavyweight title fight between Marshall County and Tullahoma on Tuesday night.
After a three-run, seventh-inning rally by Tullahoma, it was Brittany Lynch’s RBI single in the top of the eighth inning that was the difference maker in the Tigerettes’ 7-6 win against the Lady Wildcats.
Haylee Hobby got the start in the pitcher’s circle and went 6 2/3 innings for the Tigerettes.
She gave up 10 hits and six runs, but only three were earned, while she struck out two.
Brookelyn Nunley took over in the seventh and pitched the final 1 1/3 innings for the Tigerettes.
Nunely worked around a walk and a base hit, but forced a fly out and line out for the final two outs of the game to land the Tigerettes the win.
Reese Lentz and Kaniyah Taylor were the top run producers for the Tigerettes, with each knocking in a pair of runs.
After Tullahoma took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third, Marshall County got back-to-back singles by Brynlee Walls and Mallory Woodward to lead off the fifth inning.
Brittany Lynch then sacrificed the pair into scoring position, bringing Taylor to the plate.
Taylor mashed a base-clearing double to center field, putting the Tigerettes in front, 3-2.
Two batters later, Kinley Wiser scored Taylor on a RBI single tor right for a two-run cusion.
Tullahoma got one run back in the bottom of the inning, but the Tigerettes padded their lead with two more in the top of the seventh.
Taylor led off with a single and Hobby smacked a ground ball single to third, putting two runners on with nobody out.
Wiser was then intentionally walked to load the bases, with Tullahoma’s hopes of setting up a force out.
Instead, Lentz singled to center field, driving in two runs and giving the Tigerettes a three-run lead in the top of the seventh.
But Tullahoma wouldn’t go quietly.
A sac-fly landed the Lady Wildcats their first run of the seventh inning, but it was a two-run blast that tied the game at six apiece that forced an eighth inning.
The win snapped a three-game skid by the Tigerettes.
Marshall County will look to make it two-straight with an in-county matchup on Thursday night at Cornersville.
First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
