Murfreesboro Central Magnet got the better of the Marshall County Tigers (7-3-1) on the links when they swept a three-team match against MCHS and the Eagleville Eagles on Tuesday afternoon at Champions Run Golf Course.

After adding up the top four rounds from each team, Murfreesboro Central Magnet posted a team score of 158 over nine holes, while Marshall County and Eagleville both finished with a 166.

'Decent,' but...

"We played decent, but we didn't play our best golf either. Champions Run is a tough course and they had just aerated the fairways so it was a little bumpy out there, but we certainly didn't play our best," said MCHS coach Robby Giles. "Our goal is to shoot 165 or better in each match. If we do that, we should beat most teams and would have beaten Eagleville today. I feel like we should be shooting in the low 160s every match so we can do better than a 166."

Colton Miller turned in the best round of the day for Murfreesboro Central Magnet and shot a 37 to lead MCM to the win. Logan Reynolds and Jordan Reynolds each carded a 40 for Murfreesboro Central Magnet as well, while Michael Chan tallied a 41.

Junior Brooks Leftwich was the lone Tiger player to break 40 and paced Marshall County with a 37. Zach Smith followed Leftwich with a 41, while Austin Blade and Carson Hill notched a 42 and a 46 respectively.

Good start

"Brooks got off to a great start. He made two long putts to save par on the first three holes. Anytime you can do that, it gives you some momentum for the rest of your round," said Giles.

Dakota Beech tied Miller and Leftwich for the low score of the match and shot a 37 to lead Eagleville. Torrey Fusco also carded a 41 for the Eagles, while Ransom McRee and Dakota Thigpen tallied a 43 and a 45 respectively.

"Eagleville shot their best score of the season today. That's the second straight time we've brought out the best in another team. Hickman County did that against us in our last match on Thursday," said Giles.

After taking on two-time Region 6-A-AA champ Cascade on Thursday at River Bend Country Club, the Tigers will travel to Warren County next Tuesday to compete in the Keith Maxwell Invitational at the McMinnville Country Club.
