The Marshall County All-Stars suffered the post comeback blues Friday night at the Jonathan D. Hollingsworth Memorial Babe Ruth Field in their final National Division pool game of the 13-15 year old Babe Ruth Southeast Region Tournament, losing 10-0 in five innings versus Auburndale, Florida.

Both squads came in to the contest unbeaten in the Nation Division and berths in the today’s single elimination round secured.

Auburndale plays Lawrenceburg in the first game today at 10 a.m. while host Marshall County takes on the American Division winners out of Arlington, Virginia at 1 p.m.

The winners of those two games meet at 4 p.m. for the SE Region title and a berth in the Babe Ruth Worlds Series at Bismarck, North Dakota, beginning on August 6.

Auburndale starting pitcher Myles Willard shut down Marshall County’s potent offensive attack, limiting the hosts to just two hits in the game.

Willard struck out two and walked three to pick up his first win of the tournament.

Daniel Sellars had one of the two hits for the host team and picked up the loss on mound, pitching the first 2.1 innings and surrendering just a pair of base hits and three runs (zero earned) while striking out four and walking one Auburndale batter.

Marshall County had four errors in the contest and only three of the 10 runs scored off five pitchers were earned.

Kyrklin Wunderlin had the other hit for Marshall County while Auburndale had eight hits in the game with Jose Burey (RBI, SB) and Austin Vakiener (RBI, RS) coming up with two hits apiece and Peter Walsh (RBI, 2RS), Jonathan Negron (RBI, 2RS), Anthony Torres (RBI, 2RS), and Andrew Conrad (2RBI) all had one base knock.

The Auburndale defense was solid as they turned two double plays and had zero errors in the contest.

A walk, an error, and a squeeze bunt RBI by Jacob Kruzlic gave Auburndale a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning a line drive double play kept the hosts off the board in the home half of the frame.

Sellars set down Auburndale 1-2-3 in the top of the second inning and Marshall County was stymied by another inning ending double play in the bottom of the inning.

Auburndale scored two runs on just one hit in the top of the third inning due to two errors and a passed ball.

Wunderlin came up with a two-out single in the bottom of the inning, but a fly ball to Burey in center field ended the threat.

Auburndale busted the game wide open in the top of the fourth inning as they plated four runs on five hits and two more Marshall County errors.

Walsh, Burey, and Kruzlic all drove in one run in the inning for the Florida squad that scored three more runs in the top of the fifth after Willard retired Marshall County in order in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Willard finished up his complete game win on three fly ball outs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
