Marshall County Medical Center (3-1, 2-1) reeled off their third straight win on Tuesday night by defeating A-Plus Collision Center 6-5 in six innings at Jonathan D. Hollingsworth Memorial Park.
A-Plus Collision (2-2, 1-2) held a 2-1 lead through the first two innings of play, but Marshall Medical Center tallied four runs in the bottom of the third to seize a 5-2 lead before staving off a couple of rally attempts by APCC to hang on for the victory.

A-Plus Collision (2-2, 1-2) held a 2-1 lead through the first two innings of play, but Marshall Medical Center tallied four runs in the bottom of the third to seize a 5-2 lead before staving off a couple of rally attempts by APCC to hang on for the victory.
Although they outhit MMC 7-6 and held a 7-2 edge in walks, A-Plus Collision left seven men in scoring position and stranded 11 runners on the base paths overall. A-Plus Collision also committed three costly errors, which led to three of Marshall Medical Center's six runs.
Stat stars
Shortstop Ethan Poteete led MMC's offensive attack by going 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and two runs scored. Thomas Hawkins notched two hits for Marshall Medical Center as well, while Nathan Derryberry and Jackson Coward each had one hit.
MMC starting pitcher Trent Richardson picked up the win on the mound and allowed two runs in three innings of work on three hits and three walks to go along with six strikeouts. Derryberry then came on in relief of Richardson and yielded three runs over three innings on four hits and four walks to earn the save.
Tristan Underwood went 3-for-4 with a double and a RBI to pace APCC at the plate, while Brayden Gentry added two hits and a RBI. Logan Bailey and Brett McGehee also tallied one hit apiece for A-Plus Collision.
APCC starting hurler Bryce Wunderlin suffered the loss after giving up five runs, only two earned, over four innings on four hits and two walks. Gentry then replaced Wunderlin on the hill and allowed one run in one inning on two hits while registering three strikeouts.
Close from start
A-Plus Collision fired the opening salvo and pushed across a run in the top of the first inning to grab a 1-0 lead. After Ethan Evans was hit by a pitch and stole second, McGehee drew a walk and Gentry singled to load the bases with one out before Evans scampered home on a wild pitch.
Marshall Medical Center tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first when Derryberry scored on a RBI groundout by Poteete after reaching base on an error, stealing second and advancing to third on a throwing error.
A-Plus Collision then pulled back ahead by plating a run in the top of the second to seize a 2-1 advantage. Following a leadoff walk by Hunter Cummings, Evans reached base on an error and Bailey was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out. Gentry then drove in Cummings with a two-out RBI single, but Poteete threw out Evans at home plate on the play to keep the deficit at one.
Four-run inning
In the bottom of the third, MMC got their bats going and crossed home plate four times in the frame on the strength of a Coward single, a walk by Derryberry, a Nate Huitt RBI groundout, a RBI single by Poteete, a Hawkins infield single, and an error to take a 5-2 lead.
APCC narrowed the gap to 5-4 in the top of the fourth on a two-run single by Bailey, but stranded the tying run on third before leaving the bases loaded in the fifth inning.
Marshall Medical Center then tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth when Poteete scored on a wild pitch after singling and advancing to third on bloop single by Hawkins.
A-Plus Collision whittled the deficit to 6-5 in the top of the sixth on a two-out RBI single by Underwood, but Derryberry retired the next APCC batter on a groundout before the game's time limit expired.
