Mound marvel
MMC starting pitcher Ethan Poteete turned in a strong outing on the mound and racked up 10 strikeouts in five innings of work while limiting A-Plus Collision Center to two hits and a walk en route to earning the victory.
Aided by their third inning offensive onslaught, Marshall Medical Center pounded out 12 hits and drew three walks against three APCC hurlers. A-Plus Collision Center also made their pitching staff's job tougher by committing eight errors, which contributed to seven of MMC's 12 runs.
Nate Huitt (2 RBI), Poteete (1 RBI), and Jackson Coward (1 RBI) tallied two hits apiece to lead Marshall Medical Center at the plate, while Nathan Derryberry added a two-run homer. Tristan Maxwell (2 RBI), Knox Barnes (1 RBI), Trent Richardson, Payton Hood, and Will Brannon each notched one hit for MMC as well.
APCC starting pitcher Bryce Wunderlin suffered the loss and yielded 10 runs, only three earned, over three innings on eight hits and a walk. Logan Bailey and Jarvis Lyttle each singled to account for both A-Plus Collision Center hits.
Early run
Similar to their last two contests, APCC got off to a good start and pushed across two runs in the bottom of the first inning to grab a 2-0 lead. After Ethan Evans drew a walk and Bailey reached base on an infield single to put men on first and second with no outs, both runners moved up 90 feet on a groundout by Wunderlin before scoring on a Marshall Medical Center throwing error.
MMC left two men in scoring position in the top of the second, but opened up the floodgates in the third inning, as the crossed home plate 10 times in the frame on the strength of a Huitt RBI single, a two-run homer by Derryberry, a Maxwell two-run single, a RBI double by Barnes, a Poteete RBI double, another RBI single by Huitt, and six A-Plus Collision Center errors to forge a 10-2 lead.
Run explosion
In the top of the fifth, Marshall Medical Center tacked on two more runs to open up a 12-2 cushion. Richardson belted a leadoff double and advanced to third on the play thanks to an APPC error. Following consecutive walks by Huitt and Derryberry, Richardson scored on a wild pitch to make it 11-2. Huitt was thrown out at third on a fielder's choice by Hood before Coward plated Derryberry with an RBI single.
Poteete then retired A-Plus Collision Center in order in the bottom of the fifth to keep the mercy rule in effect
