Mary Jo Talley Dixon, age 87, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2022 at The Arbors Memory Care Facility in Spring Hill, TN.
She was a native of Marshall County, TN and grew up attending the Cane Creek Church of Christ. She was born again on 9/4/1949 just after her 14th birthday. Mary Jo served faithfully as wife and was a dedicated “help meet” to her husband who served as a minister for 16 yrs in Ripley, MS, 2 yrs in Trenton, TN, 3 yrs in Millington, TN, 4 yrs in Dixon, IL and 5 yrs in Bloomington, IL. She also served as a valuable volunteer in Christian childcare for 25 yrs as her husband was executive director for both Shults-Lewis Children’s Home in Valparaiso, IN and Agape Child and Family Services in Memphis, TN.
Mary Jo loved being outdoors and was particularly fond of roses, growing beautiful ones for many years. She also enjoyed antiquing and had a booth at BoJo’s Antique Mall in Memphis, TN where she had refinished many pieces of furniture. She was an amazing cook and her dressing at Thanksgiving was the absolute best! Mary Jo loved her family deeply and loved them well!!
She is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Hubert Allen Dixon, Jr., her parents, Thomas Wert and Nancy Woods Talley and a son-in-law, David James.
She is survived by two daughters, Kathy Lynn (Sid) Dye of Salem, IN, Nancy Louise James of Cordova, TN, one son, Thomas Allen (Amy) Dixon of Spring Hill, TN, sisters, Nancy Sue Ropp of Tremont, IL and Jessie Lynn Wiser of Youngtown, AZ, a brother, Thomas Wert Talley, Jr. of Morton, IL, seven grandchildren, Allison Dye Weddle, Andrew Dye, Joshua Dye, Rachel Dixon, Hannah Dixon, Jordan James, Nicholas James and eight great grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Friday, October 14, 2022, 11 a.m. at Cane Creek Church of Christ in Petersburg, TN. The celebration of her life will begin at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to H. A. and Louise Dixon Endowment Scholarship Fund at Freed-Hardeman University, Agape Child and Family Services in Memphis, TN, or the TN Alzheimer’s Association.
London Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family with the arrangements.
