Each week during the 2019 season the Maxwell Football Club will recognize outstanding performances with two weekly awards. The Maxwell Award Player of the Week will be recognized for overall performance on offense, defense or special teams, and the Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week will be honored for outstanding defensive play. Players selected do not have to be represented on the Maxwell or Bednarik Award watch lists.

Skylar Thompson - QB- Kansas State

Skylar Thompson and Kansas State dealt a big blow to No. 5 Oklahoma's national title hopes with a shocking 48-41 upset victory over quarterback Jalen Hurts and the No. 5 Sooners at

Bill Snyder Family Stadium in Manhattan, Kansas. . The Wildcats' quarterback threw for 213 yards while running for four touchdowns, the defense did just enough against Hurts and the Sooners' prolific offense, and Kansas State held on through a harrowing fourth quarter for a 48-41 victory Saturday. His outstanding effort has earned him recognition as the Maxwell Award Player of the Week.

Bednarik Award Player of the Week

Chase Young - DL - Ohio State

Ohio State's Chase Young has been selected as the Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week after he recorded six total tackles with five tackles for loss, four sacks and two forced

fumbles in Ohio State's 38-7 win over Wisconsin Saturday. Young's four sacks tied an Ohio State school record, and he is now just a half-sack from breaking Vernon Gholston's single-season record of 14 sacks, which has stood since 2007. Young's 13.5 sacks lead the Football Bowl Subdivision, and his 15.5 total tackles for loss and five forced fumbles both rank second nationally. On Tuesday Young was also named a semifinalist for the Chuck Bednarik Award and the Maxwell Award.

The Maxwell and Bednarik Awards are members of the National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA), which encompasses the most prestigious awards in college football. Founded in 1997, the NCFAA and its 25 awards now boast over 800 recipients, dating to 1935. Visit ncfaa.org to learn more about the association.
