All this week, the Marshall County Art Guild has been holding an art camp for children.
On Wednesday, about 14 kids could be seen in the Public Square Park clustered around local potter Mike Green as he helped each one form their own bowl or vase on the portable electric wheel he had set up under a tent.
On Tuesday they studied journaling with graphic designer Jennifer Britton, and on Thursday they had a photography lesson with Debbie Hill.
Before the children went outside to the potter's wheel in the park, each painted a mug that Green made for them before the class, which he will take away to fire and glaze, explained MCAG President Tina Lilly.
She was pleased to announce that MCAG has received a $1,950 grant from the Tennessee Arts Commission most of which will be used for an art program for children and at-risk teens called A Reason To Shine (ARTS).
In October, Lilly said, MCAG intends to work with Marshall County schools and spend some of the grant on a children's art exhibition and artists' reception.
Next month, MCAG will be featured in the "Nashville Arts Magazine," said Lilly, clearly excited about the Guild's progress since it has moved to its location on the Lewisburg square.
