Two new Marshall County School Resource Officers were sworn in Friday, Aug. 2. Deputy Joe Duncan will be the SRO for Lewisburg Middle School and Deputy Michael Galyon will be a roving SRO for the five Marshall County elementary schools.
Duncan and Galyon met with Marshall County General Sessions Judge Lee Bowles, County Mayor Joe Boyd Liggett, Director of Schools Jackie Abernathy, and Sheriff Norman Dalton at the courthouse Friday.
Duncan is originally from Waverly. He previously served as an SRO for the Benton County school system for five years.
Galyon is originally from Lincoln County. He previously worked for the Marshall County Sheriff's Department and Cornersville Police Department.
Galyon's position as the SRO for the elementary schools is a new one. He will roam each elementary school on various days and times. When he is not available during the day, one of the other SRO's will check in with the schools periodically.
In a press release, Dalton thanked Bowles, Abernathy, Liggett, and the county commissioners for their contributions to and support for this new position.
"Our children are Marshall County's greatest assts and their safety should be our top priority," Dalton wrote. "Hopefully, in years to come, we will be able to have the funding for permanent SROs in every school in the county.
