For the second night in a row, Nichirin and A-Plus squared off in the second game of the Babe Ruth League twin bill Tuesday and a big, six-run third inning propelled Nichirin to the sweep.

Nichirin banged out 10 hits in the game to move to 2-2 on the season while A-Plus had five hits and fell to 1-3 for the campaign.

Trey Warner led the way at the dish for Nichirin, going 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs, and a run scored.

John Morgan Thomas and Lucas Hery had two hits apiece and James Hery, Reid Mitchell, and Jackson Rodgers all had one base knock.

Thomas picked up the win on the mound for Nichirin, coming on for Warner with two outs in the top of the third inning. Thomas gave up three runs (two earned) and three hits while striking out seven and walking one A-Plus batter.

Caleb McElhaney continued his stellar season at the plate for A-Plus, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs, two runs scored, and two stolen bases.

Daniel Sellars, Carson Cheek, and Jace McPherson all had one hit apiece for A-Plus.

There was no scoring in the first inning, but A-Plus came up with a run in the top of the second when Cheek led off with a double, stole third, and scored on a passed ball.

McElhaney, who started on the hill for A-Plus, tossed a scoreless second inning and the collision center boys added two unearned runs in the top of the third to take a 3-0 lead.

Nichirin came all the way back in the top of the third inning, sending 11 batters to the plate and scoring six runs to take a 6-3 lead.

Warner, James Hery, and Thomas all had one RBI in the inning and three more runs scored thanks to three infield errors.

Thomas set down A-Plus 1-2-3 in the top of the fourth and Nichirin added a pair of runs in the home half of the stanza on hits by Warner and Hery, plus two more miscues in the field by A-Plus.

A-Plus mounted a comeback in the top of the fifth, scoring three runs on two hits (Sellars and McElhaney) combined with a wild pitch and an error in the field by Nichirin.

Nichirin posted two insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on RBI base knocks by Malone and Warner to make it a 10-6 contest and in the top of the sixth, Thomas struck out the side in order to end the two-hour time limited contest.
