October is SIDS Awareness Month
Marshall County Mayor Joe Boyd Liggett signs a proclamation with the Marshall County Community Advisory Board declaring October as SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) Awareness month in Marshall County. According to the Tennessee Department of Health, 142 babies died in Tennessee in 2015 from sleep-related deaths. The main contributors to sleep-related deaths in Tennessee are: Baby not sleeping in a crib or bassinette, infant sleeping with other people, and infant not sleeping on back. Following the ABC’s of Safe Sleep is key in preventing these sleep-related deaths - babies should always sleep Alone, on their Back, and in a Crib.
