• An uncooperative suspect forced Lewisburg Police officers to tase her in order to take her into custody on Jan. 12.

Responding to a shoplifting call at Wal-Mart, officers found Michelle Peters being prevented from leaving the store. According to the police report, she told officers that the store would not give her her medication.

Loss prevention employees stated that she had attempted to leave the store with unpaid for items.

The report described her as “clearly agitated and appear(ing) emotional and possibly intoxicated.”

Told to go to the loss prevention office, Peters reportedly refused and tensed up, not allowing officers to place her in handcuffs. She refused several requests to place her hands behind her back and resisted efforts to cuff her, all while yelling and cussing at the officers.

Warned that a stun device would be used, she continued to resist after the device was applied, requiring a second delivery of a shock before going to the ground and finally being cuffed.

While on the ground she reportedly acted as if she was having a seizure, although one of the officers involved recognized the attempt as false.

Escorted to the loss prevention office, still yelling and cussing, Peters was discovered to have $196.71 worth of unpaid merchandise.

She was charged with shoplifting, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct and held on $2,500 bond.
