The Cornersville Board of Aldermen unanimously selected Melisa Peters to fill the town's vacant mayor position at its meeting Thursday night.
Peters, who had been serving as vice mayor, will fill the remaining term of Amos Davis, who resigned the office in mid-August.
The board initially questioned filling the position until issues relating to the ongoing State Comptroller's investigation were settled. Informed that without a mayor no resolutions or ordinances could be enacted, the board quickly moved to elect Peters.
Alderman Sheryl McClintock was chosen to fill Peters' position as vice-mayor. A fifth alderman for the board remains to be chosen. Read more on the story in The Tribune on Wednesday.
