Lewisburg's Police Advisory Board is scheduled to begin interviewing applicants for police chief Saturday morning, but members of the public won't be welcome, according to the board's chairwoman.

After announcing shortly after their formation that they would meet in public and at times convenient for public attendance, members of the advisory board have decided to interview candidates behind closed doors, according to Lina Horner, chairwoman of the panel.

Horner said Monday that she'd spoken with City Attorney Bill Haywood "and he is very much recommending against" interviewing candidates in public.

The board's next scheduled meeting is Feb. 21, but City Manager Eddie Fuller has already contacted the applicants to make arrangements for interviews.
