Residents are getting a rare chance to get close to history.
The World War II B-17 bomber "Yankee Lady" will fly in to Ellington Airport in Lewisburg on Sunday, Sept. 29.
Very few B-17s, the iconic strategic bomber in Europe during the war, are still in flying shape and Lewisburg residents will get to hear the unmistakable roar of its four radial engines as it flies into town at approximately 9 a.m.
The airport will be open to the public from 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
Parking and entry to the airport is free.
There is no charge either for viewing the plane and taking photos from the tarmac, but inside tours of the aircraft will be available for $15 and flights aboard the "Yankee Lady" will be on offer for $450.
Each 25 minute flight will include cruising at 150 miles an hours at 1,200 feet and participants will be able to move among the various stations on the bomber during the flight.
Food trucks will be on site for those wishing to make a day of it.
