Forrest's young golf team had a tough time of it on Thursday when they lost to the Columbia Central Lions at Stoneybrook Golf Course in Columbia
Taking the four best rounds from each team, Columbia Central posted a team score of 168 after playing the front nine holes at Stoneybrook. The Rockets, conversely, struggled with the unfamiliar course and finished the match with a 208.
Change of scenery
"I think playing on a different course affected us to a certain point, but we didn't play well either. Add the fact that we weren't very familiar with the course and it made it worse than it should have been," said Forrest coach Jeremy Jean. "We have a young team and we'll have to take our lumps right now, but hopefully it will pay off down the road."
The Lions showed amazing consistency throughout their lineup, as Jackson Calvin, Nolan Bone, Jacob Bushey, and Troy Stewart all carded a 42, while Robert Johnson tallied a 43.
Sophomore Gary Lukonen continued his steady play for the Rockets and led Forrest with a 44.
'Dependable'
"Gary has been that guy that we can count on to put up a low score and he's been our most dependable player," said Jean. "This is the first time he's shot above 40 this season. He's usually been around par or one over in our other matches."
Robert Garcia followed Lukonen with a 52, while Tim Elliot turned in a 53. Hawken King and Dayton Ward each notched a 59 for the Rockets as well.
Forrest returns to action on Wednesday afternoon when they take on Eagleville at Champions Run Golf Course before facing Marshall County on Thursday at the Lewisburg Recreation Center.
