After sweeping a dual meet versus Fairview and Creekwood on Thursday to improve to 12-1 on the season, the Forrest Rocket grapplers traveled to Cheatham County on Saturday to test their meddle in their first dual tournament of the year and the Chapel Hill grapplers came away with a split of four matches.

"This was the first dual tournament of the year and the kids wrestled hard all day," said Forrest head coach Kyle Stacey. "We were forced to move some wrestlers around in different weight classes because of unforeseen circumstances and I was very proud of our guys."

Early contests

The tournament was split into two pools with the Rockets opening with host Cheatham County, who won a tightly contested bout 48-36.

In their second match, Forrest came back strong, doubling up Hume-Fogg Magnet School 54-27 as Jamie Boyce, Dylan Pendley, Cage Hargrove, Bryton Spitzley, and Cooper McNair all came away with pins over the Blue Knights.

In the third match, Forrest continued their dominance, taking down Page 54-29 with Ivan Wentzel, Tyler McClendon, Pendley, Hargrove, and Nick Tahmassebi coming up with pins over the Patriots.

With the two wins, the Rockets took second place in their pool and had to take on Greenbrier, the No. 1 seed from the other pool.

Wentzel started the bout with his third pin of the day before the Bobcats came away with a pair of takedowns to take a 12-6 lead.

William Eddins and McClendon were awarded forfeits to edge Forrest back in front before Billy Clanton pinned Dakota Ballard, making it 24-12 in favor of the Rockets.

Comeback

Two consecutive pins by the Bobcats tied the match at 24, but a pair of pins by CJ Monce and Hargrove, coupled with a forfeit win by Spitzley gave Forrest a 42-24 lead. The Bobcats came back strong, coming away with three consecutive pins, tying the match at 42.

Unfortunately, for the Rockets, the officials searched the rulebook and concurred that the Bobcats would be the winners on a tiebreaker that stated the team having the greatest number of first points scored would be declared the winner, ending the Rockets' day.

"We had a lot young wrestlers that grew up a lot over the weekend," said Stacey. "We must continue to get mat time during the upcoming Christmas break for us to have any chance at advancing in the regional duals because the region is pretty close to being even this year."
